Message from the Chair
ASQ section #0105 2012 update:
The section continues to work to provide meaningful programs and professional development events for our members.
Our membership has communicated that Plant Tours and Networking Events are where the majority of their interests lie.
In order to meet our member requests we have added the second and fourth Tuesday of the month as
Professional Development Events when events and presenters are available.
We will be holding our annual strategic planning meeting in July where we solicit input on the next year’s programs, activities and focus areas. Your input and suggestions for tours or professional development events can be communicated to the executive board at any time, as well as at the planning meeting. Please feel free to contact me at any time with your suggestions and ideas.
This year’s the Sumner K. Wiley scholarship award was given to Kyle Huston, a student at the Maine Maritime Academy.
The essay question for 2012 is posted on the ASQ and the FAME websites. ASQ Section 0105 is dedicated to supporting continuing education and welcomes any scholarship donations, ideas or assistance for raising funds.
Our membership currently stands at 209. 13 of our members pursued professional recertification, including several with more than one! The certifications renewed or awarded are as follows: Certified Quality Engineer – 9, Certified Manager of Quality /Operational Excellence – 3, Certified Quality Auditor – 3, and Certified HACCP Auditor – 1.
David Smith submitted his resignation from the ASQ Executive Board this December. I have known David since June of 1993 and he has served ASQ Section #0105 wearing many hats over the years. His support will be greatly missed.
The ASQ executive board welcomes anyone interested in attending an Executive Board Meeting to contact a current Board Member. The obligation is not demanding and we are eager to hear new ideas and discuss ways to better serve our members. Our immediate need is to find a new Secretary, whose responsibility is to record and publish our monthly meeting notes/action items (usually nine meetings per year, the first Thursday of the month). I personally have learned a lot from spending time with fellow executive board members and it is always an enjoyable experience.
Regards,
Richard C. Golek
