Vincent Dickinson Presented the
2009 ASQ Pine Tree State Section’s Special Recognition Award
Vincent Dickinson has been unanimously
selected by the Executive Committee of ASQ Pine Tree State Section
#0105 as this year’s recipient of their Special Recognition. Award. The
Special Recognition Award represents recognition of Maine’s outstanding
non-quality professional of the year, whose work has improved or
expanded quality, changed the quality profession with the impact of
their efforts, or has significantly changed a quality process.
Vince Dickinson was selected for his
presentation of Environmental “Green” Lean as Environmental Compliance
Officer for Bath shipbuilding operations. Criteria which distinguished
Vince were his significant cost savings and cost avoidance measures he
had successfully initiated along with development of a proactive and
constructive relationship he had built with DEP and EPA administrators.
What proved remarkable was, by keeping the regulatory agencies informed
of problems and planned corrective/preventive actions, they granted
significant leeway because they were in the loop for anticipated
changes and improved results.
Please join with me in congratulating Vincent for the
remarkable job he has done and the recognition he surely deserves as
our 2009 recipient of the Pine Tree State Section’s Special Recognition
Award. His contributions are a positive reflection of Bath Iron Works
and the trust and confidence placed in him by his employer.

Deborah E. Morton has been unanimously selected by her
peers on the Executive Committee of ASQ Pine Tree State Section #0105
as this year’s winner of the Rudolph G. Woodward, Jr. Award. The Rudy
Woodward Award, as it is known, represents recognition of Maine’s
outstanding quality professional of the year—one who has given the
greatest effort and has made the most accomplishments during the year
under consideration toward achieving the Society and Section goals.
Her commitment to promoting quality principles is greatly
evident by her pursuit of Lean certifications and training. She and has
emerged from her peers as one of the lean leaders in the state and is
often sought out as a resource to assist in improving their own
processes.
Deborah’s enthusiasm in sharing her knowledge and achievements
outside her company is demonstrated by her involvement as an active
member and leader of the Lean round table, which is used as a tool to
share ideas and provide a network for Maine quality leaders with a
training opportunity.
In years past Deborah has supported the ASQ mission by teaming
with another willing volunteer to sustain the Sumner K. Wiley, Jr.
Scholarship and charity Golf Tournament through considerable
difficulties thereby ensuring its survival. She also plays a major role
in the section by helping to plan programs in the past and upcoming
events.
Please join with me in congratulating Deborah for the
remarkable job she has done and the recognition she surely deserves as
our 2008 winner of the Rudy Woodward Award. Her contributions are a
positive reflection of Corning and the trust and confidence placed in
her by her employer.
