"The Customer is Always Right"
Another way to state this old
business saying could be, "Companies are servants to the customer."
Serving doesn't mean that we as businesses and individuals are slaves
to the customer. There is a big difference between slaves and servants.
Slaves must please their master's every whim even if in their hearts
they know it to be wrong, whereas servants provide the best service for
their client to the best of their abilities and educate their client on
the reasons why it is best for the both of them. As quality
professionals it is our duty to aid our customers, both external and
more so internal, and provide them the best services and products
possible. That is why it is stated in the ISO 9001:2000 standard that
an organization shall determine requirements specified by the customer
as well as the requirements not stated by the customer but necessary
(7.2.1 a & b). To be successful and essentially employed we must
provide for the customer in whatever form, so that they may prosper and
in turn we shall be rewarded.
The tough economic forecasts seem to have the control of recent
headlines. Although I do not doubt there are hardships in our country's
industries, there are many success stories from companies especially in
our state who because of good quality practices continue to thrive and
are flying under the radar unnoticed. The current economic pressures
highlight the need for developing quality skills and networking for
survival of Maine business and individuals. ASQ provides such an avenue
to promote and develop such qualities.
As Section Chair of the Pine Tree State, the entire State of Maine and
the quality professionals employed in this state are my customers so to
you I am your servant. The executive committee and I make it our duty
to offer the very best programs that provide diverse experiences, which
are both educational and networking opportunities. We invite potential
and new as well past and present members both to come forward and be
involved with the section if you see an area that you may provide a
service. Also, please contact me if as a company or an individual you
have a training or resource need and don't see the section providing or
can't find the correct contacts anywhere else. The executive committee
and I will do our best to address your needs in any way that we can.
Above all please tell me if the section is not exceeding your
expectations on a local or national level, because after all as a
section member, you the customer are always right.
